Commentary for Sunday: XXXI Ordinary Time

3 November 2019. Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time. Cycle C.

Open the doors to Christ. Let him come in…others, even God. Then it is that Jesus, a friend, a brother, who becomes present in our lives, comes to meet us, and offers us his forgiveness and love.
The meeting between Jesus and Zacchaeus shows us how. Zacchaeus was small in stature and of heart (?), a recognized sinner for being a tax collector. He is “curious” to see Jesus and climbs a tree to be able to see him. Then Jesus “goes to him”. Without fear of what the heads of the synagogue will say (“This man eats with sinners!”), he enters his house to stay there. And the heart of Zacchaeus opens up to God and to others. And in his own house there enters forgiveness and happiness.
Jesus is willing not only to enter into my house, but he invites me every day to his, to participate in his banquet and to enjoy his forgiveness and love. But, do I have the same curiosity as Zacchaeus?, “Am I willing to let him enter my house? What I am willing to change in my life?
