Serving the Word: Mt 5, 27-32

Matthew 5, 27-32:
“If your right eye should cause you to sin, tear it out and throw it away… If your right hand should cause you to sin,cut it off and throw it away.”

The expression “your right eye”, in this case, is the symbol of having and possessing. Everything that we want to possess enters through the eyes.
And we have tested through our own experience that not everything that we want to have or possess is good for ourselves or for others.
Not everything that we want to have or possess builds us up as persons or improves others as persons.
That’s why Jesus says that if something that enters through the eyes and separates us from Him and His kingdom we cut it out at the root because it does not serve us and destroys us and our brothers and sisters.
The expression “your right hand” refers to power.
The Christian is not a person of power but is a person of service.
That is why it is also necessary to nip in the bud everything that gives us power over others enslaving them and prevents us from being humble and servers of our brothers and sisters.
Tear out everything and cut out everything that prevents you from getting closer to Jesus and getting closer to your brothers and sisters.
Good day.
