THURSDAY 6 AUGUST
Matthew 17, 1-9:
“… Lord, it is good to be here. If you wish, I will make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.
Today we meet Jesus, the new man who makes all things new. The new man who makes new everything that is found in him.
In today’s story we contemplate the Transfiguration of the Lord. Jesus is shown to us as the fullness of the Law and the Prophets. And the Father invites us to listen to him and to follow him: “This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him”.
Jesus is the way that leads us to the Father. The way that is the way of the cross, of total surrender, of death in order to always give life, glory and resurrection.
He wants us to follow this path not from convenience by making evasive tents at the top of the mountain.
He does not want us to follow him in a superficial and mediocre way by settling for a comfortable and shallow religiosity.
Jesus wants us to walk the path behind him by going down the mountain with him and following him to Jerusalem.
That is: by being authentic, sharing our life and goods with the needy, denouncing structures of death and bringing hope and joy where there is despair and sadness.
Choose the way of Jesus. Look for him and find him not in escape but “below”, where your brothers and sisters are waiting for you and expect from you your promise and your mission.
Good day.
