Serving the Word: Mt 14, 1-12

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1ST

Matthew 14, 1-12:
“Give me right now, on a platter, the head of John the Baptist… The king was sorry, but because of the oath and the guests, he ordered it to be given to him and ordered John to be beheaded in prison”.

John dies for telling the truth and for denouncing attitudes that are not in harmony with what pleases God and humanizes man.
And when the lie feels attacked, it wants to eliminate the truth.
In all times there have been and still are martyrs like John the Baptist. Even today we know of situations and people who proclaim the truth.
And the lie, sometimes disguised by different names and ways, tries to silence their voices, even with death.
Today’s Gospel is a call to courage and to stand up for the truth.
Surely today you will have many opportunities to practice courage and to stand up for the truth.
Be courageous and do not be afraid.
Good day.
