Serving the Word: Mk 12: 28b-34

FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2020

Mark 12, 28b-34:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your being… you shall love your neighbour as yourself.

The people of Israel were lost in the endless tangle of rules and commandments that every good Israelite was obliged to observe.
This had become a heavy, demanding and overwhelming burden.
Jesus, whose burden is bearable and whose weight is light, cuts to the quick and affirms that the most important thing in life is to love.
Let your heart beat well towards God and your neighbour. All the Law and all the rules come down to this.
Do not waste your life on incidental things. We have already said: “In the evening of life you will be tested for love.
This is the core of the Gospel. Whoever understands this is not far from the Kingdom of God.
Remember that by loving others you are also loving God.
Good day.
