Serving the Word: Lk 21: 12-19

WEDNESDAY 27 NOVEMBER

Luke 21, 12-19:
Jesus said to his disciples, “They will lay hands on you, they will persecute you, handing you over to the synagogues and to prison, and they will bring you before kings and governors for my sake. In this way you will have the opportunity to bear witness.”

How many believers throughout the centuries and from the beginning of the Church up to our days have given their lives for being disciples of Jesus and to follow Him!
Many of these martyrs disciples of Jesus we venerate today with the title of saint or blessed.
But there are many more anonymous Christians who have been and continue to be witnesses of Jesus in the midst of contradictions and difficulties. I have known and know many young people who, because they are faithful to Jesus, are the cause of ridicule, criticism and contempt.
I have also known and know many other people who show me the way of fidelity and love for the Lord with admirable constancy and absolute dedication.
We have martyrs – which means witness – who accompany us and stimulate us in the cause of Jesus.
Let us be courageous and we are going to take every opportunity to witness to our faith in the Lord.
As in the early days of Christianity, today’s world also needs witnesses.
Dare to always be one of them with courage.
Good day.
