Serving the Word: Lk 17: 26-37

Friday 15 November

Luke 17, 26-37:
“He who seeks to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will keep it safe”.

From the Gospel of today these words of Jesus stay with me. Those who have chosen to commit their life have been and are those who have had and have more life.
And I am not thinking only of the martyrs or in people as committed as a Mother Teresa of Calcutta or a St. John Paul II or a St. Oscar Romero.
I am thinking of so many people who from their simplicity and humility are committing their daily lives: mothers, grandmothers, doctors, nurses, professors, teachers, priests, “pastors with the smell of the sheep”, workers of many types…
I would like to be as many of these people are who, without asking for anything in return, are “earning a living” at the expense of giving it over and losing it in service to others.
I invite you today to embark not on the ark of Noah, but on the Barque of the Church and begin to sail out on the high sea winning life for yourself, committing it with joy, courage and hope.
Good day.
