FRIDAY APRIL 17 – FRIDAY IN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER
John 21, 1-14:
“Jesus said to them, ‘Friends, do you have any fish?'” They answered, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. They cast it out, and had no strength to draw it in, because of the multitude of fish”.
Seven of Jesus’ disciples, bored and with nothing else to do, went off to fish. Possibly missing the job that some of them had before following Jesus. But that night they “caught nothing”.
The Risen Jesus is present and orders them to cast their nets.
They cast it, and “they did not have the strength to pull it in, because of the multitude of fish.
How many times in our spiritual life do we also do things out of routine, out of boredom, without any enthusiasm.
We pray because we must, we go to Mass out of routine, we participate in this or that celebration because we have nothing better to do…
And so we don’t “catch anything”.
Go to the Risen Jesus in this Easter time. You will see that his saving power overcomes your apathies, your routines and your boredom.
And you will notice that your spiritual life is resurrected with an “abundant catch”.
Good day.
