Serving the Word: John 13: 21-38

TUESDAY, APRIL 7 – TUESDAY OF HOLY WEEK
John 13, 21-33.36-38:
“Peter said, ‘Lord, I will lay down my life for you. Jesus answered him, ‘So you will lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, the cock will not crow before you have denied me three times.

Peter was very sure of himself. He was too confident in his own strength. And from that assurance and self-confidence, he promised Jesus that he would give his life for Him.
But the moment of truth came a few hours later. His fear was stronger than his promise. And before the cock crowed, he had denied Jesus three times.
Today’s gospel contains a double call:
+ Firstly, it is a call to faithfulness above all difficulties. It is in difficulties that faithfulness is best demonstrated. We usually say that it is in difficult moments that true friends are shown.
+ In the second place, it is also a call to humility. Peter was very presumptuous. He relied on his own strength. He did not count on the strength of the Master, who also told everyone that without Him they could do nothing.
Try to live faithfulness to Jesus but also count on the strength He gives you to live it.
Good day.
