Serving the Word: 5th May

WEDNESDAY 5th MAY 2021

John 15:1-8:

“As the branch cannot bear fruit unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.”

Last Sunday we commented on this same passage from the Gospel:

Jesus compares himself to a vine, whose branches we are.

A vine that the Father takes care of with care and affection so that it bears the desired and expected fruit.

Jesus sets two conditions for the fruitfulness of the branch:

1: THE PRUNING: to cut away everything that can impede the abundant circulation of the sap for the good abundance and quality of the grape.

2: STAYING IN HIM: separated from Him, we can do nothing. Torn from the trunk of the vine, we are called to barrenness and dry up.

Think today of all that you must cut away so that the life of Jesus may circulate freely in your life and you may bear good fruit.

Do not be afraid of pruning. It may hurt, at first, to strip away certain things.

But in the long run, the fruit of your life will be better.

It also strengthens your abiding in the True Vine.

Remain in Christ through prayer, through a profound encounter with his Word, through frequent participation in the Eucharist and in the sacrament of forgiveness.

Good day.
