Serving the Word: 30th March

TUESDAY 30th MARCH 2021

John 13:21-33,36-38:

“Peter replied, Lord, I will give my life for you. Jesus answered him, ‘With what will you lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, the cock will not crow before you have denied me three times”.

Peter was too sure of himself. He had too much confidence in his own strength. And from that self-assurance and self-confidence, he promised Jesus that he would lay down his life for Him.

But the moment of truth came a few hours later. The fear in him overcame his promise. And before the cock crowed, he had denied Jesus three times.

Today’s Gospel contains a double wake-up call:

+ First, it is a call to faithfulness over and above difficulties. It is in difficulty that faithfulness is best demonstrated. We often say that it is in hard times that true friends show themselves.

+ Secondly, it is also a call to humility. Peter was very presumptuous. He relied on his own strength. He did not count on the strength of the Master, who also told them all that without him they could do nothing.

Try to live faithfulness to Jesus but also count on the strength he gives you to live it.

Good day.
