Serving the Word: 27th July

THURSDAY, JULY 27th, 2023

Matthew 13:10-17:

“For to the one who has will be given and he will have plenty, and from the one who has not will be taken away even what he has…you will hear with your ears without understanding; you will look with your eyes without seeing; for the heart is dull.”

It would be good for you to spend some quiet time today reading, meditating and praying this passage from the Gospel.

Whenever I read it I feel very much reflected in it and very much questioned by it. I wonder to what extent I have effective desires for Jesus to be the true Lord of my life, because it makes me think a lot about that “to the one who has will be given and he will have more than enough, and from the one who does not have will be taken away even what he has”. And I ask the Lord that I may have true desires to follow Him so that he may give me even more desires and not extinguish in me the few that I may have.

It also puts me on my guard that “you will hear with your ears without understanding; you will see with your eyes without seeing, because your heart is dull”.

Because it can happen to me that my heart becomes so hardened that it becomes insensitive to all that is Jesus and his Gospel.

I ask the Lord to fulfill in all of us the beatitude that Jesus proclaims today in this Gospel: “Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

Good day.
