Serving the Word: 21th August

FRIDAY 21 AUGUST

Matthew 22, 34-40:
“What is the chief commandment of the law? Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind… The second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself”.

Love of neighbour is just as important as love of God.
In the Gospel it is very clear: “Whatever you did for one of these my brothers, you did for me; and whatever you did not do for them, you did not do for me.
We have no excuses. It could be that the love of God will remain a little bit “in the clouds”.
But from the particular brother next to us, whom we see and touch, there is no escape. If we say that we love our neighbour and we do not put it into practice, we are deceiving ourselves because “works are love and not good reasons”.
Our love for God is realized when we make it concrete in our love for others.
Try today to love in the concrete.
Good day.
