Serving the Word: 10th June

FRIDAY 10th JUNE 2022

Matthew 5, 27-32:

“If your right eye causes you to fall, pluck it out and throw it away…. If your right hand causes you to fall, cut it off and throw it away”.

The expression “right eye”, in this case, is the symbol of having and possessing. Everything we want to possess enters through our eyes.

And we have seen from our own experience that not everything we want to have or possess is good for us or for others.

Not everything we want to have or possess builds us as persons or builds others as persons.

That is why Jesus says that if something enters us through our eyes and separates us from him and his Kingdom, we should nip it in the bud because it does not serve us and destroys us and our brothers and sisters.

The expression “right hand” refers to power.

The Christian is not a person of power, but a person of service.

That is why we also have to uproot everything that gives us power over others by enslaving them and prevents us from being humble and servants of our brothers and sisters.

Root out everything and cut off everything that prevents you from getting closer to Jesus and from getting closer to your brothers and sisters.

Good day.
