“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. And when he had said this, Jesus breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit”
(John 20, 19-23)
Today we celebrate the great Solemnity of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit continues to descend upon the Church and continues to guide the Church.
We pray today that the Holy Spirit will fill us thoroughly with all his gifts:
+ Come, Holy Spirit, grant us the gift of COUNSEL to enable us to choose at all times what contributes most to the glory of God, to the dignity of the human being and to the creation of a better world.
+ Come, Holy Spirit, and grant us the gift of UNDERSTANDING, so that we may more easily penetrate the mysteries of our faith.
+ Come, Holy Spirit, and grant us the gift of STRENGTH, enabling us to overcome all obstacles that arise, uniting us intimately to God and keeping us in the service of our brothers and sisters.
+ Come, Holy Spirit, and grant us the gift of WISDOM, leading us always to know what is right in your eyes.
+ Come, Holy Spirit, and grant us the gift of PATIENCE, that it may lead us to do with ease all that is service to God and service to our brothers and sisters.
+ Come, Holy Spirit, and grant us the gift of KNOWLEDGE, that it may enable us to know God and ourselves deeply and that it may also enable us to understand others.
+ Come, Holy Spirit, and grant us the gift of the FEAR OF GOD, that we may always do what is pleasing to the Father.
