Commentary for Sunday: XVII Ordinary Time

July 26th, 2020. 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time Mt 13,44-52

Jesus continues to speak to us about the Kingdom of God through parables. Today, he presents to us the parable of the hidden treasure in the field and the parable of the pearl of great price. He who finds the treasure or the pearl and realizes its true value, sells everything to get it.
In both parables the important thing is to realize, to discover the value of what we have found. Being smart and insightful enough to realize what is before us. The field and the pearl express the values of the spirit, which are much more important than all the others, even though they may be less perceptible or less satisfactory in the short term. But if we want to achieve them, we must take risks, invest (sell everything you have and buy it). With this investment, it is Jesus who guarantees us. That is why we must trust him and be enthusiastic about these securities. Whoever falls in love is willing to give up everything for that love, he is capable of giving up many other things. Whoever discovers true wisdom, whoever finds the values that Jesus offers us, is ready to live the happiness of loving and feeling loved.
