Commentary for Sunday: V of Easter

May 10, 2020. 5th Sunday of Easter. Jn 14, 1-12

I don’t like politics. But it seems like “our daily bread”, and we have to live with it and with politicians. Globalisation and the media make us aware immediately of what is happening here, outside of here, and far from here. I do not like politics because it has become an instrument at the service of politicians, of their personal interests or of their party, regardless of the colour. They forget that they were elected to serve others by seeking justice, peace and the common good for all equally. They leave many dissatisfied, and feel let down.
Once again God comes out to meet us. He invites us to turn to the one who does not disappoint, the one who reminds us again: “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”.
He does not promise, he acts. He does not indicate, he goes ahead. We do not have to wait to reach the goal, but by making that journey (“love one another”) is how we achieve the full meaning of our life. The one who walks this path finds his own truth, lives happily, has love in his life.
No politician is capable of dedicating themselves in the way that Jesus did. His word, his life, his death and resurrection are what convince. The one who follows this path will never be disappointed.
