Commentary for Sunday: 12th June

John 16, 12-15:

Sunday, 12th June 2022 (Most Holy Trinity)

Feast of the Holy Trinity

There are many people who say that they are atheists or agnostics. And if they give an explanation we can intuit that it is because they have been given an image of God that does not correspond to that of the Gospel. The God of theoretical definitions, made from a human mentality. The God of theology and philosophy, who cannot go beyond what reasoning allows. God is a mystery, and as such, unreachable by reason. But not for the heart.

To understand what love is, you have to be in love. And those who live in love are full of feelings and live in happiness. Others notice it, they don’t need explanations.

The mystery of God is a mystery of love. He loves us because we are his children and he makes himself present in our lives. He is not far away, nor is he the righteous personage that some have portrayed him as. He becomes one like us and gives us a lesson in life, and gives us his Spirit so that we may love as he loves us.

Those who “feel” God in their lives do not need definitions, and those who live it transmit an image of peace, love and forgiveness.
