“Words on the way” was the motto of the activity prepared by the Pastoral and Project Management Board for the entire educational community of Colégio Internato dos Carvalhos (CIC), which consisted of a 20 km walk along the roads of Santiago, towards Fátima.
In total, 40 members of the community took part in the activity, including students, parents, grandparents, friends, teachers and their families, a sample of the large community that is the CIC, far beyond the school walls.
Departing from Fungalvaz (municipality of Torres Novas), the journey began with a moment of reflection in which the participants were invited, along the way, to “listen to the words”, to remain attentive, reflective and open to the experience of the journey. The experience was a great success: their hearts were filled with all that they had experienced and shared during the five-hour walk, building community.
The moment of arrival at the Shrine of Fatima was very emotional and special. In a final moment of sharing, each participant was able to express in one word what this journey, this experience, was for them: joy, family, overcoming, conquest, friendship, gratitude, bonds, sharing, union and sacrifice.
The Pastoral and Project Management Council wanted to make this trip the first stage that will take some of its students to participate in the World Youth Days in Lisbon in August 2023.
