THE GENERAL SUPERIOR ARRIVES IN THE CANARY ISLANDS

During this Claretian week, our Superior General, Fr. M.V., is visiting the Canary Islands. He is here to conclude the Claretian jubilee year, which not only marked the founding of the congregation (July 1849), but also commemorated Claret’s stay in the Canary Islands for over a year (March 1848 – May 1849). 175 years.

His visit includes meetings with the Claretian communities, preaching at the Triduum in honour of Fr. Claret, a fraternal gathering with the bishops of the diocese, and a tour of the Claretian activities in schools, parishes, and their work with the marginalised and those living in poverty. This pastoral visit will culminate in a popular procession to the Cathedral with the “Padrito” icon. Upon arrival on the 24th, at 7pm, we will celebrate a solemn Eucharist with the entire Diocese of the Canary Islands. The “Padrito” continues to be, to this day, a gift from God for the pastoral renewal and evangelisation of the entire Canary Islands diocese.
