The commentary for Sunday: Holy Trinity

7 June 2020. HOLY TRINITY Jn 3:16-18

There are many people who say they are atheists or agnostics. And if they give some explanation we can sense that it is because they have been given an image of God that does not correspond to that of the Gospel. The God of theoretical definitions, made from a human mindset. The God of theology and philosophy, which cannot go beyond what reasoning allows. God is a mystery, and as such, unreachable by reason. But not by the heart.
To understand what love is, one must be in love. And he who lives in love is full of feelings and lives in happiness. The others notice it, they don’t need explanations.
The mystery of God is a mystery of love. He loves us because we are his children and he makes himself present in our lives. He is not far away, nor is he that righteous character that some used to present. He becomes one like us and gives us a lesson in life, and gives us his Spirit so that we may love as he loves us.
The one who “feels” God in his life does not need definitions, and the one who lives it transmits an image of peace, love and forgiveness.
