Serving the Word: Mt 5:n27-32

FRIDAY 12 JUNE 2020

Matthew 5:27-32:
“If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away… If your right hand makes you fall, cut it off and throw it away.

The expression “right eye”, in this case, is the symbol of having and possessing. Everything we want to possess enters through our eyes.
And we have proven from our own experience that not everything we want to have or possess is good for us or for others.
Not everything we want to have or possess builds us as people or builds others as people.
That is why Jesus says that if something enters our eyes and separates us from him and his Kingdom, we should cut it off at the root because it does not serve us and destroys us and our brothers and sisters.
The expression “right hand” refers to power.
A Christian is not a person of power, but a person of service.
And so we also have to cut off at the root everything that gives us power over others by enslaving them and impedes us from being humble and servants of our brotehrs and of our brothers and sisters.
Tear up everything and cut out everything that stops you from coming close to Jesus and coming close to your brothers and sisters.
Good day
