Serving the Word: Mt 5: 43-48

Matthew 5, 43-48:
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. in this way you will be sons of your Father in heaven, for he causes the sun to rise on bad men as well as good, and the rain to fall on honest and dishonest men alike”.

For a Christian there are no “enemies”, because “there is only one who is your Father and you are all brothers”.
There will be people who are closer or less close to us.
There will be people in whom we will have more confidence than in others for whatever reason. There will be people who we feel are more part of our lives than others…
But never in the heart of a Christian can there be shelter for the word “enemy”.
“Put love where there is no love and you’ll get love”, said the mystic St. John of the Cross.
Put forgiveness where there is no forgiveness and you’ll get forgiveness.
Put peace where there is no peace and you will bring forth peace.
Put Jesus where Jesus is not, and Jesus and His Kingdom will be present.
A good programme for a lifetime. That you may make “rain” and “sunrise” for many people as does our heavenly Father.
Love not only the one who makes it easy, but also the one who costs you more to love.
Good day.
