Serving the Word: Mt 5: 17-19

Matthew 5, 17-19:
“Jesus said to his disciples: Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law and the Prophets; I have come not to abolish, but to complete them”.

Jesus did not want to break with anything of old by the mere fact of being old.
What Jesus did want was to banish all the old that had become devoid of meaning.
And also what he wanted was to fill the old with the new content of the Gospel that he brings to us and announces to us.
Jesus does not want empty observances or naked ritual.
Both observances and ritual Jesus wants to be full of love of God and neighbour.
Both observances and ritual have to be ways and tools for us to get closer and find ourselves more in depth with God our Father and with our brothers and sisters.
Do not undervalue any rule nor any ritual.
Try to fill them with their authentic meaning.
Be careful not to make you own code of rituals and rules to suit yourself and for your convenience but empty of authentic Christian meaning.
Ask the Lord today to help you better follow his law of love and to put your full trust in Him.
Good day.
