Serving the Word: Mt 5: 1-12

MONDAY 8 JUNE

Matthew 5, 1-12:
“Blessed are the poor, the mourning, the suffering, the merciful, the clean of heart, the persecuted.”

One of the great aspirations of the human being is to be happy.
And everyone bases their happiness on something or someone.
Jesus, as the new Moses who gives a new law, shows us today the way to happiness and tells us that true happiness and authentic joy are not based on having but on being.
There is neither happiness nor joy in having money, fame, triumphs, power…
The programme that Jesus proposes to us is quite the opposite. It is based on poverty, on sharing, on humility and simplicity of heart, on not seeking one’s own interests but the interests of others…
In short, it is the same programme on which he based his own.
As we have already commented, Jesus’ programme consists in girding his “towel” well and in “getting his hands and apron dirty”.
This indicates that you are working and serving others.
Good day.
