Serving the Word: Mt 21: 23-27

MONDAY, 16 DECEMBER 2019

Matthew 21, 23-27:
“By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you such authority?”

Jesus has just expelled some merchants from the temple and has told the Pharisees that they have turned God’s temple into a den of thieves.
This upset some of them, and the Pharisees asked Jesus with what authority He works in this way.
They do not question why Jesus has addressed this accusation to them. What worries them is to not lose their power, to secure their own image. Because their authority is based on power, on force and on oppression and coercion.
They do not understand that Jesus’ authority is based on honesty, on always seeking truth and consistency, on selfless and generous service, on unconditional love for each person, on a deep relationship with the Father.
On what model would you like to base your authority? On the Pharisee model or on the model of Jesus? You know what each one’s model is based on.
Try to bring the model of Jesus into your life.
Good day.
