Serving the Word: Mt 20, 17-28

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2020

Matthew 20, 17-28:
“Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave. Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many”.

The disciples do not quite understand the language and the statements of Jesus. They are like two parallel worlds. As Jesus goes up to Jerusalem, he speaks to his followers of suffering, of failure, of death on the cross and also of the fullness of life.
And at the same time the disciples, with the mother of the Zebedees at their head, are thinking of triumphs, of brilliant careers, of great h honours, of power?
Jesus, faced with the ignorant and stubborn stance of his disciples, reminds us again of what he told us yesterday: “the first among you shall be your servant”.
Remember and try to live one of the fundamental principles of his Kingdom: true power is service.
Do that work today, or that task that you know no one likes to do.
Good day.
