Serving the Word: Mt 11, 11-15

THURSDAY 12 DECEMBER
Matthew 11, 11-15:
“He who has ears, let him hear.”

One of the figures that fills the Advent season is that of John the Baptist. He is an austere, truthful and faithful man. He is the one who points to Jesus as the Messiah, as the Son of God and as the Saviour of the world.
His greatness consists in ending the long journey of God’s promises and pointing out the fulfillment of those promises.
John the Baptist is like the hinge between the Old and New Testaments. That is why he leaps for joy in his mother’s womb when he hears the greeting of Mary, the new woman who carries in her womb the new man, who is Jesus.
As Christians, we can take the example of John the Baptist.
In our baptism God calls us by name for a specific mission: that of proclaiming Jesus also by preparing his paths for all men.
Listen to the voice of the Baptist pointing to Jesus.
And also have your lips well disposed to announce him.
Good day.
