Serving the Word: Mk 9: 30-37

TUESDAY 25 FEBRUARY

Mark 9, 30-37:
“Whoever wishes to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all.”

The thoughts of Jesus and the thoughts of his disciples are two parallel paths.
The thoughts of Jesus and our own thoughts can also be parallel:
+ Jesus speaks of surrender to the end, of service, of humility, of death and life in its fullness.
+ The disciples, and also we, think of positions of honour, of power, of who will be the most important.
Jesus tells them and makes things clear to us: “Whoever wants to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all”.
May your heart be like that of a child who receives this teaching of Jesus with the welcome and simplicity that only a child can.
Stand in the “queue” and put on your “apron” and try to be the last so as to be the servant of all.
In this way you will be the first in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Good day.
