Serving the Word: Mk 6: 14-29

FRIDAY 7 FEBRUARY

Mark 6,. 14-29:
“He immediately sent an executioner to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in prison, brought the head on a platter and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother”.

We read today in the Gospel the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. Throughout his life, John lived in austerity, truth and consistency.
He announced, without any kind of concealment, the coming of Jesus, first, and his presence, later.
His mission was to prepare the way for the people of Israel to welcome Jesus.
He preached conversion and had to face lies and corruption. And that same lie and corruption took him away by paying with his own head for the defense of the truth.
John the Baptist encourages all of us today to always defend the truth.
Let us ask the Lord, through John, for the courage he had to always defend what is just and what the Lord commands.
Good day.
