Serving the Word: Mk 12: 28b-34

Mark 12, 28b-34:
“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, all your mind and with all your strength… You must love your neighbour as yourself.”

The people of Israel were lost in the vast tangle of rules and commandments to which every good Israelite was obliged to observe.
This had become a demanding and exhausting burden.
Jesus, whose load is bearable and light, goes to the heart of the matter and asserts that the most important thing in life is to love. Let the heart beat in tune with God and neighbour.
All the Law and all the rules are reduced to this:
Don’t waste your life on peripheral things.
As we have already said: At the evening of life, they will examine you about love”.
This is the core of the Gospel. Whoever understands this is not far from the Kingdom of God. Remember that loving others you are loving God. And the love of God will take you to the love of others.
Good day.
