Serving the Word: Mk 12: 13-17

TUESDAY, 2 JUNE

Mark 12, 13-17:
“What is Caesar’s, pay to Caesar, and what is God’s, give to God.”

How many times have I heard these or similar phrases from the mouths of many people:
– “I don’t go to mass because I don’t have time.”
– “I don’t have time to pray because I have to study…”
And it’s not a question of studying or having to do other things. The issue is that we are not willing to give God what is God’s.
Many times we give God what is left over and live focused on ourselves. But God is not at the centre of our lives. We believe that we are doing God a favour when we perform some religious act.
Today Jesus invites you to think about whether in your life you are “giving to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.
Most often, we do not give God even one tenth of what is due to him. He is entitled to everything.
Today, at least, thank God for every moment of life he is giving you and the many other things as he is giving you.
Good day.
