Serving the Word: Mk 6: 14-29

Mark 6: 14-29:

“At once, he sent one of the bodyguard to bring John’s head.  The man went off and beheaded him in prison; then he brought the head on a dish and gave it to the girl and she gave it to her mother”.

Today we read in the Gospel the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist.  Throughout his life, John lived austerely, truthfully and coherently.

He proclaimed, without any type of guise, the coming of Jesus, firstly, and then his presence.

His mission was to prepare the way for the people of Israel to welcome Jesus.

He preached conversion and had to confront lies and corruption.  That same lie and corruption took him by paying with his own head in defence of the truth,

John the Baptist encourages all of us today to always defend the truth.

Let us ask the Lord, through John, the courage that he had, to always defend what is just and what the Lord has commanded.

Good day.
