Luke 4, 16-30:
“This text is being fulfilled today even as you listen”.
What a good programme of life, but a life of faith, to start the term!
If you don’t have a project for your spiritual life, today’s Gospel offers you a rule of life and a very specific spiritual project.
Since your baptism, the Spirit of the Lord is upon you and that same Spirit consecrates you to God.
Today keep in your heart the words that Jesus kept in his.
As they were for him, they are also for you: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me. He has sent me to proclaim the Good News to the poor. To proclaim liberty to captives. And sight to the blind. To give freedom to the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord”.
This was Jesus’ rule of life and this is your best rule of life.
Sense that you have been sent to carry out this programme.
Write it down where you can frequently be reminded of it.
And then when you remember it, you can say: “Today this scripture I just heard is being fulfilled”.
