Serving the Word: Lk 16: 19-31

THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2020

Luke 16, 19-31:
“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And a certain beggar named Lazarus lay in his gate, covered with sores, and longing to be fed with what was thrown from the rich man’s table. And even the dogs came and licked his sores.

The rich man in today’s Gospel is deprived of glory not because of what he did but because of what he failed to do.
Directly, he did not harm Lazarus. He didn’t throw him out of his gate, he didn’t send his servants to throw him out in bad ways, he didn’t call the police…
The sin of the rich man is ignorance and indifference to the suffering of the poor brother.
Many times we say: “I don’t hurt anyone”.
But we should also ask ourselves: do I do others as much good as I can?
Because there is a sin that is called “sin of omission”. And do not doubt that this sin in our life is more frequent than it might seem to us.
Try to make an examination of conscience today and examine yourself for your “sins of omission”.
Good day.
