THURSDAY 8 OCTOBER
Luke 11, 5-13:
“What father among you, when his son asks for bread, will give him a stone, or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake, or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good things to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?
These last words of the Gospel today caught my attention. This is what Jesus says after insisting on constant and tireless prayer.
He knows that many times we do not know how to pray and we need the sure guidance of the Holy Spirit. He teaches us the exact pedagogy to learn how to pray and to ask. Because our prayers and petitions are often childish. And our Father God does not grant caprices or spoil his children.
Prayer must make us more aware of the role God plays in our lives and of what we are called to do.
If we ask the Father to give us the Holy Spirit, this same Spirit will guide us and teach us how to pray while guiding our steps and our actions.
He will also correct our mind, order our heart and direct our steps.
Good day.
