MONDAY 7th MARCH 2022
Matthew 25, 31-46:
“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you or naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?…Truly I tell you, whenever you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.”
Today’s Gospel reminds us that our life of following Jesus must always involve our brothers and sisters.
St. John of the Cross tells us that in the evening of life we will be examined for love.
And that is what Jesus tells us in today’s Gospel: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me….. What you did not do to one of the least of these, you did not do to me”.
The Lord will not ask us to account for the prayers we have prayed or the sacrifices we have made.
All prayers and sacrifices are fine. But as long as they are aimed at increasing our love and our service to others.
May you see the face and the gaze of the Lord in every face and in every gaze that crosses your path.
May you see in those faces the call that Jesus makes to you to serve them and to love them. Because to serve is to live.
