Serving the Word: 4th November

WEDNESDAY 4 NOVEMBER

Luke 14, 25-33:
“Whoever does not bear their cross and come after me cannot be my disciple”.

Whenever we choose a profession or a lifestyle we must assume the consequences of what it implies and, above all, the maturity to be responsible and live by those conditions that lead me to choose.
Following Jesus implies as he himself tells us:
– Putting Jesus in the first place, leaving aside my selfishness and personal gain.
– Carrying one’s own cross by going after Jesus. This is equivalent to knowing my limitations, my sufferings, my sins…
– To follow Him: is to take up his cause and the consequences that flow from it. We have to listen to Him, we have to live what he asks of us and we have to be constant in following him day by day.
The conditions of being a disciple of Jesus are very demanding. What is worthwhile costs.
But even whatever it costs, when you achieve it, it gives you immense joy.
It is like the treasure hidden in the field that a person discovers and, full of joy, sells all their possessions to buy that field.
Consider your life as a disciple of Jesus and sell whatever hinders you from following him.
Never think of loss but of gain. With Jesus there is always a gain.
Good day.
