Serving the Word: 4th December

MONDAY 4th DECEMBER 2023

Matthew 8, 5-11

“Lord, it is not for me to bring you under my roof; it is enough for you to say it by word of mouth, and my servant will be healed”.

The centurion who comes to Jesus today is a pagan, he does not belong to the Jewish people. But he comes to Jesus with enormous faith, total trust and great humility.

Jesus recognises and values these qualities and grants him what he asks for. Because Jesus makes no distinction between races or peoples. He looks directly into the heart and knows how to value what is within it.

Today’s centurion teaches us how to live our faith. We repeat his words every time we take part in the Eucharist before communion: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, say but the word and my soul will be healed”. Say them to the Lord from now on, giving these words all their depth if you have not done so before.

He will always renew your hope, strengthen and increase your faith.

Good day to you.
