Serving the Word: 3rd October

TUESDAY 3rd OCTOBER 2023

Luke 9, 51-56

“Jesus took the decision to go to Jerusalem” This decision must not have been an easy one for Jesus.

This decision must not have been easy for Jesus. He knew perfectly well what would happen to him in the Holy City. He Himself had only recently predicted: “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and there they will betray me, and mock me, and I shall die the death of the cross”.

But He knows perfectly well that this is his mission because this is the will of the Father. His passion and death on the cross will lead to the triumph of the resurrection and this triumph will make possible the triumph of all humanity over sin and death. That is why he decides to go up to Jerusalem.

How often we flee from everything that resembles the cross: we flee from effort, we flee from work, we flee from commitment, we flee from service, we flee from dedication…. We run away, in short, from everything that leads us to save and give life to others and demands effort and sacrifice from us.

You too, today and every day, take the determination to go up to “the Jerusalem” that the Lord indicates to you in order to serve others more and better.

Good day to you.
