Serving the Word: 3rd November

FRIDAY 3rd NOVEMBER 2023

Luke 14, 1-6

Whose donkey or ox falls into the well and does not get them out on the Sabbath day?

How many times during his life Jesus clashed with the Pharisees over the Sabbath! The day that had been instituted to remember and give thanks for God’s great gifts to Israel and to all mankind had become a heavy burden difficult and uncomfortable to bear. It was more important to keep the Sabbath than to restore a person to health and dignity. The law was being adulterated and Jesus re-interprets it in its essentials and constantly reminds us that love of God and neighbour is the summary of the law and the prophets.

As followers of Jesus we are called to be sowers of hope and dreams. We are called to always care for people and to heal wounds even on the Sabbath. May we never fail to do good with the excuse of arriving early to the church.

Good day to you.
