Serving the Word: 3rd March

WEDNESDAY 3rd MARCH 2021

Matthew 20, 17-28:

“Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave. Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many”.

The disciples don’t quite understand Jesus’ language and approach. They are like two parallel worlds. As Jesus goes up to Jerusalem, he speaks to his followers of suffering, of failure, of death on the cross and also of fullness of life.

And at the same time the disciples, with the mother of the Zebedee’s in front, are thinking of triumphs, of brilliant careers, of great honours, of power?

Jesus, faced with the ignorant and stubborn stance of his disciples, reminds us once again of what he also told us a few days ago: “the first among you will be your servant”.

Remember and try to live one of the fundamental aspects of his Kingdom: true power is service.

Do today that job or that task that you know no one likes to do.

Good day.
