Serving the Word: 3rd June

THURSDAY 3rd JUNE 2021

Mark 12, 28b-34:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your being… you shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

The people of Israel were lost in the vast maze of rules and commandments that every good Israelite was obliged to keep.

This had become a heavy, demanding and crippling burden.

Jesus, whose burden is easy to bear and whose weight is gentle, cuts to the heart’s content and affirms that the most important thing in life is to love. To let one’s heart beat well towards God and towards one’s neighbour.

All the Law and all the rules boil down to this.

Don’t waste your life on incidental things.

We have already said it before: “in the evening of your life, you will be examined for love”.

This is the core of the Gospel. Whoever understands this is not far from the Kingdom of God. Remember that by loving others you are also loving God. And love for God will lead you to love for others.

Good day.
