Serving the Word: 31st January

MONDAY 31st JANUARY 2022

Mark 5, 1-20:

“Go home to your family and tell them what the Lord has done for you, and that he has had mercy on you.”

Today’s Gospel tells us that, from the tombs, a man runs to meet Jesus and kneels before him asking for healing.

He is a man who, though alive, is dead: “he dwelt in the tombs” and always, “night and day he walked in the tombs”.

The power of Jesus casts out of him the demonic possession that shackles him and the people of that place find him “sitting beside Jesus, clothed and in his right mind”.

How often in our lives we “dwell and walk among the tombs”: we dwell and walk in sadness, in despair, in fear, in disillusionment, in hatred, in resentment….

Run today in haste to Jesus and kneel before Him.

Jesus is stronger than all your “deaths” and all your “graves”.

And Jesus will also say to all that entombs you: “Unclean spirit, come out of this man!

You will be able to tell with joy what the Lord is doing with you and the compassion and mercy he has had and always has for you.

Good day.
