Serving the Word: 30th July

SATURDAY 30th JULY 2022

Matthew 14, 1-12:

“Give me right now, on a platter, the head of John the Baptist…”. The king was sorry; but because of the oath and the guests, he ordered it to be given to her and had John beheaded in prison”.

John dies for speaking the truth and for denouncing attitudes that are not in line with what pleases God and humanises man.

And when the lie feels attacked, it wants to eliminate the truth.

In all times there have been and still are martyrs like John the Baptist. Even today we know of situations and people who proclaim the truth.

And the lie, sometimes disguised under different names and in different ways, tries to silence their voices, even to the point of death.

Today’s Gospel is a call to courage and to stand up for the truth.

I am sure that today you will have many opportunities to practice courage and to stand up for the truth.

Be brave and do not be afraid.

Good day.
