Serving the Word: 29th October

THURSDAY 29 OCTOBER

Luke 13, 31-35:
“Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said, ‘Go away from here, for Herod wants to kill you. He said, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Today and tomorrow I will continue to heal and to cast out demons; the day after tomorrow I will come to an end. But today and tomorrow and the day after I must journey on.

Jesus upset the political and religious power of his time. His words and actions were not always to the liking of the political and religious authorities.
But Jesus is clear about his mission. He has come to teach us to be children of God and brothers and sisters to one another. He has come to establish values that are the values of the Kingdom of God. And there is no threat which fear can stop his mission. He will always continue to heal and to cast out demons. He will always continue to restore and give dignity to the human person above all else. How hard it is for us to witness to our faith in the midst of contradictions and difficulties! How often do we shrink when we have to be brave and speak our word as Christians and believers! And how often do we hide our Christian identity because we are afraid to break away from the current and fashionable trend!
Pray today for so many Christians who are standing up for their faith even at the cost of their lives.
And ask also for the courage to be a fearless Christian.
Good day.
