Serving the Word: 29th November

MONDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2021

Matthew 8, 5-11:

“Lord, it is not for me that you should come under my roof; it is enough for you to say the word, and my servant will be healed.”

The centurion who comes to Jesus today is a pagan, he does not belong to the Jewish people.

But he comes to Jesus with enormous faith, with total trust and with great humility.

Jesus recognises and values these qualities and grants him what he asks for. Because Jesus makes no distinction between races or peoples.

He looks directly into the heart and knows how to value what is within it.

Today’s centurion teaches us how to live our faith. We repeat his words every time we take part in the Eucharist before communion: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed”.

Say it to the Lord from now on, giving these words all their depth if you have not done so before.

He will always renew your hope, strengthen and increase your faith.

Trust, God always hears your call.

Good day.
