Serving the Word: 29th December

TUESDAY 29th DECEMBER 2020

Luke 2, 22-35:

“When his parents came in with the child Jesus to fulfil the law, Simeon took him in his arms and blessed God, saying, ‘Now, Lord, according to your promise, you can let your servant go in peace. For my eyes have seen your Saviour, whom you have presented to all peoples, a light to enlighten the nations and the glory of your people Israel”.

An old man receives Jesus as a child today.

The arms of the old man Simeon are like the chalice that gathers the salvation awaited for centuries by the people of Israel and by all humanity.

+ The arms of Simeon can feel that the Saviour has arrived.

+ His eyes, as a tired old man, see the light of salvation.

+ And his lips, which have formulated so many prayers, proclaim the light of salvation for all peoples.

* Let your arms work so that the world feels that salvation has arrived and is present.

* May the joy of your eyes, your words and your gestures show the light of salvation.

* May your lips also announce Jesus Christ, the Saviour and the Light of the world.

Good day.
