Serving the Word: 29th December

WEDNESDAY 29th DECEMBER 2021

Luke 2, 22-35:

“When his parents were coming in with the infant Jesus to do with him as the law required, Simeon took him in his arms and blessed God, saying, “Now, Lord, according to your promise, you may let your servant go in peace. For my eyes have seen your Saviour, whom you have set before all peoples, a light to lighten the nations and the glory of your people Israel”.

Today an old man welcomes Jesus as a child.

The arms of the old man Simeon are like the chalice that gathers the salvation awaited for centuries by the people of Israel and by all humanity.

+ Simeon’s arms feel that the Saviour has arrived.

+ His eyes, like those of a tired old man, see the light of salvation.

+ And his lips, which have uttered so many prayers, proclaim the light of salvation for all peoples.

* May your arms work so that the world may feel that salvation has come and is present.

* May the joy of your eyes, your words and your gestures show the light of salvation.

* May your lips also proclaim Jesus Christ, the Saviour and the Light of the world.

Good day.
