Serving the Word: 28th September

TUESDAY 28th SEPTEMBER 2021

Luke 9, 51-56:

“Lord, do you want us to say, ‘Let fire come down from heaven and consume them?’ But Jesus turned and rebuked them”.

James and John want to have things their own way. And in the face of the Samaritans’ refusal to welcome Jesus into their village, they want Jesus to act in a violent way by sending down fire from heaven.

But Jesus rebukes them. His way is non-violent. Jesus is patient. He knows that there will come a day when he will meet a Samaritan woman and through her the people of Samaria will accept his presence and salvation.

Today Jesus gives us a lesson in patience and tolerance. Never call down fire from heaven to punish those who reject you or those who are not of your own mind and heart.

Good day.
